SDL Imports is a long established, family-run business specialising in the provision of wholesale gifts, toys and sun hats for the Tourist Industry.  

We source goods from around the world and strive to produce a wide range of interesting merchandise which, whilst maintaining high levels of quality, is still competitively priced.  Many of our products have been developed in house to reflect the demands of our industry and to fulfil the needs of our customers. 

Over the years, SDL Imports has become a leading business in the UK Nautical Giftware market. In 2007 SDL Imports took over Bounty Arts, a well-established player in this market, and further strengthened our range of nautical themed goods. 

To complement this range, in 2011 SDL acquired the business of Planaship.  We now offer this established range of fine line drawings of shipwreck maps and traditional ships.

Our team

Based in Bournemouth on the south coast of England, SDL was first established in 1956 by Keith Turner and his father Charles.

After 50 years at the helm Keith decided to step back from the day to day running of the company although he retained an active interest in the company right up to his death in January 2018.  

Now the third generation of the family, Keith's daughter and son-in-law Diana and Michael Leadbetter, have taken over - building on the sound foundations laid by Keith. Michael was promoted to Managing Director in May 2006.

Many of the staff of SDL have been with the company for many years. Our former sales manager Steve Onaran joined the company in the 1970s and retired in September 2016.  He is missed by customers and staff a like but is enjoying his retirement spending time with his family and on his boat.  

Colin Blake, our sales representative for the South West, retired at the end of 2017 after 27 years with SDL.  He is spending his retirement fitting in as many holidays as he can!  His customers miss his friendly manner but are being looked after by our other staff.

Simon Keeping, having been with SDL since 1998 is mainly office based. In 2017 he was appointed General Manager overseeing company operations alongside the directors.  Simon has a huge knowledge of our product range and can help customers with telephone or e-mail enquiries.

Dimitrios Pegioudis joined SDL in 2017 bringing with him a wealth of knowledge about marketing and he is able to contact our customers to keep them up to date on the status of orders and runs SDL's e-marketing and social media. In addition he is more than happy to help answer customers' queries.  

Behind the scenes the warehouse team keep the goods side of the business working smoothly. They work hard to try to ensure that orders are dispatched as promptly as possible.
